# Run Log and Credit Usage

> See every run of an automation step by step, why a run stopped, how it is doing over time, and the credits it uses each period.

Source: https://docs.theavoxai.com/automation/run-log

Every automation keeps a log of each time it ran: who it ran for, what started it, every step it
took, and the exact reason it stopped if it didn't finish. Next to it, **Credit usage** shows
what the automation costs, step by step, and what it will likely cost next month.

Open an automation from the **Automation** page. Below its steps you'll find three panels:
**How it's running**, **Run log** and **Credit usage**. Anyone who can view automations can see
them.

## How it's running

Pick the last 7, 30 or 90 days.

| Part | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Runs**, **Completion rate**, **Stopped or failed**, **Credits used** | Totals for the period. The completion rate counts completed runs out of the runs that ended, so runs still waiting don't pull it down. |
| **Runs per day** | Each day's runs, with how many completed and failed. |
| **Credits per day** | The credits its messages used each day. |
| **Where runs stop or fail** | The steps where runs end early, with the reason and how often. Start here when an automation isn't doing what you expect. |

## Run log

The run log lists every run, newest first, 25 to a page:

| Column | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| **Contact** | Who the run was for. Click the name to open the contact. A run started by a row with no contact shows **No contact**. |
| **Started** | When it started, in your time. |
| **Trigger** | What started it, in words, like "Row added to Appointments" or "Keyword: book". |
| **Outcome** | Where the run is or how it ended (below), with the reason when it didn't finish. |
| **Credits** | Credits the run used. |
| **Steps** | How many steps it took. |

Above the list, pick a date range (up to 366 days, counted in your own time zone) and an outcome
to show only those runs. The tiles above it (**Runs**, **Completed**, **Stopped or failed**,
**Completion rate**, **Credits used**) count the runs in that range. **Download CSV** saves them.

### A run, step by step

Click a run to open **Run details**: what started it, the values it started with (the row's
cells or the Flow's answers), and a timeline of every step:

- what the step did, in words, like "Sent template booking_confirmation" or "Found a row in
  Order status",
- the credits it used, if any,
- for a message, its latest status from WhatsApp (sent, delivered, read or failed), and when it
failed, WhatsApp's reason in plain words,
- for a table step, the table and the row it read or wrote,
- the values it used or got back, and
- the reason and code when it stopped there.

A Condition that took the other path shows **Took the other path**; a step that wasn't needed
shows **Skipped**.

### Why a run stopped

When a run ends early, the log gives the reason in plain words and its code. Click the code for
what it means and what to do.

A run that was already handled for a change shows "Already ran for this change, so it didn't run
again." Nothing is wrong: each row change and each date reminder runs once.

### Privacy in the log

- A contact without a name is shown by the last four digits of their number, like `•••• 3210`,
and phone numbers in the CSV file are written the same way.
- A row's contact cell isn't copied into the log.
- The CSV file is safe to open in Excel or Google Sheets: a cell that starts like a formula is
written as plain text. A download holds up to 10,000 runs; pick a shorter range for more.

## Credit usage

Only messages the automation sends cost credits. Table steps, app steps, conditions and waits are
free. **Credit usage** shows:

| Part | What it shows |
| --- | --- |
| **This period** | Credits used in the current credit period, with its dates. |
| **All time** | Credits used since the automation was made. |
| **Per run, on average** | This period's credits divided by its runs. |
| **Share of your credits** | This automation's part of everything the Switchboard can spend this period: the plan's credits plus any rolled over. |
| **Last 30 days** | A chart of the credits used each day. |
| **Steps that cost credits** | Each kind of message step, with its credits and its average per run. |
| **Next month** | About how many credits it will use next month at the pace of the last 30 days, or "Not enough use yet to estimate next month." |

The **Automation** page also has a **Credits** column for every automation, this credit period
(or the last 30 days without one), so you can sort to find the ones that cost the most. Nothing
about charging has changed; see [Credits](https://docs.theavoxai.com/automation/credits).
