# Before You Send a Broadcast

> The check before a broadcast goes out, line by line: your number's quality and daily reach, who is left out, the cost estimate, pace, risks, and the permission sentence you confirm.

Source: https://docs.theavoxai.com/broadcasts/before-you-send

Before a [broadcast](https://docs.theavoxai.com/broadcasts) goes out, the **Review** step runs a check. It counts who gets it and
who doesn't, reads your number's standing from Meta, estimates the cost, works out how long it will
take, and says plainly anything that could hurt your number. Then you confirm, in one sentence, that
everyone on the list agreed to hear from you.

The check runs when you reach the **Review** step. **Check again** runs it once more, and it runs again
by itself when you press **Send now** or **Schedule**, so the numbers that go out are the numbers you
saw.

## What the check found

The top of the check lists what it found, most serious first. With nothing to say, it reads **Nothing
risky found**.

- **Stops sending** (red): the broadcast can't go out until you fix it.
- **Worth a look** (amber): it can go out, but think twice.
- **Good to know** (blue): something to keep in mind.

| Message | Level | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Pick a connected WhatsApp number to send from. | Stops sending | Pick a number on the **Name** step. |
| The WhatsApp number isn't connected right now. Reconnect it first. | Stops sending | Reconnect it on [Connections](https://docs.theavoxai.com/connections). |
| Pick an approved Marketing template. / Broadcasts use Marketing templates only. | Stops sending | Pick another template on the **Template** step. |
| The template isn't approved by Meta right now. | Stops sending | Wait for approval, or pick another template. |
| Fill in ... | Stops sending | Fill in the variables it names on the **Variables** step. |
| Nobody in this list can get the broadcast. | Stops sending | Change who it goes to. The skipped reasons below say why. |
| A broadcast can go to at most 100,000 contacts. | Stops sending | Narrow the list, or split it. |
| There's no active plan, or this month's broadcasts are all sent. | Stops sending | See [Monthly limits](https://docs.theavoxai.com/broadcasts#monthly-limits). |
| Your number's quality is Medium. | Worth a look | A large send may lower it. Consider a smaller, more engaged list. |
| Your number's quality is Low. | Worth a look | A broadcast now could get your number limited. Wait, or send to people who know you best. |
| This is more than your number can reach in a day. | Worth a look | Nothing to change: the rest goes out as soon as your number can reach more people, usually the next day. |
| Contacts who haven't messaged you in 90 days. | Good to know, or Worth a look when they're more than half the list | People who don't remember you block and report more often. Think about leaving them out. |
| Meta rates this template's quality as low. | Worth a look | People may be blocking or reporting it. Try another template. |
| Contacts will be skipped. | Good to know | Shown when as many are skipped as get it. See why under **Who gets it**. |
| Avox couldn't read your number's quality, or its daily reach, from Meta just now. | Good to know | Nothing to do: Avox still pauses the broadcast if quality drops or a limit is reached while it sends. |

## Your number

- **Number**: the WhatsApp number it goes out from.
- **Quality**: Meta's quality rating for that number, **High**, **Medium** or **Low**. It's how Meta
judges whether people want your messages, mostly from blocks and reports in the last few days. See
  [Quality rating](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/quality-and-limits#quality-rating).
- **Can reach**: how many different people WhatsApp lets the number start chats with in 24 hours (its
  messaging limit), or **Unlimited**. See
  [Messaging limits and tiers](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/quality-and-limits#messaging-limits-and-tiers).
- **Broadcast messages in the last 24 hours**: what this number has already sent in broadcasts. Avox
counts them against the daily reach, so two broadcasts on the same day share it.

Avox asks Meta for the quality and the limit when the check runs. If Meta doesn't answer, a small note
says the figures come from WhatsApp's last update instead, or that they aren't known.

## Template

The template's **Name**, **Language**, **Meta's status** (it has to be **Approved**) and **Template
quality**, Meta's own rating of how people react to that template. See
[Template quality](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/quality-and-limits#template-quality).

## Who gets it

How many people get the broadcast, then how many are **left out** and why, one line per reason (see
[Who is skipped](https://docs.theavoxai.com/broadcasts#who-is-skipped)). Under them: how many of the people on the list haven't
messaged you in the last 90 days or more, including anyone who never has.

These are the same rules the broadcast uses when it sends. If contacts change before sending starts,
the real list follows the change.

## Estimated cost

A rough guide to what Meta will charge for the broadcast, in US dollars:

- **The total**: the people who get it times **Per message**, the Marketing rate per message Avox uses.
- **By country**: the four countries with the most people, with their share of the total.

Meta bills these charges to your own Meta account, never through Avox, and Avox adds nothing to them.
Meta's real price depends on the country of each number, and some messages are free, so the bill can
differ from the estimate. **Per message: Not known** means no rate was available, so no cost is shown.
After sending, the [report](https://docs.theavoxai.com/broadcasts/report#cost) shows the cost from what Meta reported. For how
Meta prices messages, see [Pricing](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp-platform) and [Meta charges](https://docs.theavoxai.com/billing#meta-charges-and-payment-problems).

## This month

How many broadcasts you've sent this month and how many your plan allows, or **Unlimited broadcasts**
with this month's count. See [Monthly limits](https://docs.theavoxai.com/broadcasts#monthly-limits).

## Pace

- **Speed**: messages a minute, with "(picked for you)" when **Pace it for me** is on. See
  [Pace](https://docs.theavoxai.com/broadcasts#pace).
- **Takes**: about how long sending takes at that speed.
- When the list is bigger than your number's daily reach, a line says it spreads over about how many
  days.

## Numbers that aren't known

When Meta hasn't shared something yet (your number's quality or daily reach, the template's quality,
the price per message), the check says which, and leaves it as "Not known". It never guesses.

## The permission sentence

Under the check is one sentence with a box to tick:

```text
I confirm everyone in this list agreed to get messages like this from Riverside Cafe on WhatsApp.
```

It uses your business name from [Settings > Business](https://docs.theavoxai.com/settings/business). **Send now** and
**Schedule** stay greyed out until it's ticked ([AVX-3865](https://docs.theavoxai.com/error-codes/avx-3865)), and ticking it
again is needed whenever the check's numbers change.

### Why it matters

- **It's WhatsApp's rule.** WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy says a business may message people only
after they agreed to hear from it on WhatsApp, and only about what they agreed to. A broadcast is
  exactly that kind of message.
- **It protects your number.** People who don't expect your message block and report it. Enough blocks
and reports lower your number's quality, and Meta can then lower how many people it can message, or
restrict it. One careless broadcast can undo months of good conversations.
- **It's a record.** The sentence, who ticked it and when are kept with the broadcast, on its **What was
confirmed** tab, and in your [activity log](https://docs.theavoxai.com/logs).

> **Tip**
>
> Good lists are people who messaged you, bought from you or signed up to hear from you on WhatsApp, and
> recently. Bought or copied lists, and old lists of people who never chatted with you, are the fastest
> way to a Low quality rating.

## After you confirm

The numbers you saw, the sentence and who confirmed it are kept on the broadcast's **What was
confirmed** tab: when it was checked, how many it was going to, each reason people were left out, the
estimated cost and rate per message, your number's quality and its daily reach at the time. Compare
them with the [report](https://docs.theavoxai.com/broadcasts/report) once it's sent.
