# Sign In to Avox with Google

> Create an Avox account or sign in with Google, connect or disconnect Google in Settings, and how it works with two-factor authentication.

Source: https://docs.theavoxai.com/integrations/google-sign-in

You can create an Avox account and sign in with your **Google** account instead of a password.
Google confirms who you are and Avox never sees your Google password. You can also add Google to
an existing account, so you have more than one way in.

## Requirements

- A Google account.
- A browser that lets avox.com send you to Google's sign-in page and back.

## Signing up or signing in

**1. Open sign-in or sign-up**

Go to **Sign in** or **Create your account** on avox.com.

**2. Click Google**

The button above the email form. It shows "Opening Google sign-in" while it loads.

**3. Choose your Google account**

Approve on Google's sign-in page.

**4. You're in**

A first-time sign-in creates your account. Avox takes you to your dashboard (from **Create your account**, to the onboarding questions first) - or back to the page that sent you to sign in, such as checkout.

Continuing with Google means you agree to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, as the sign-in
page says under the buttons.

## Adding Google to an existing account

**1. Step 1**

Profile">Find the **Connected accounts** card.

**2. Click Connect next to Google**

Approve on Google's sign-in page. You come back to **Profile**.

**3. Check the status**

The **Google** row shows **Connected**.

You'll get an email: "Google sign-in was added to your Avox account".

## Removing Google

Click **Disconnect** on the **Google** row. You'll see "Account disconnected" and get the email
"Google sign-in was removed from your Avox account".

**Disconnect** is available when you have another way to sign in, such as a password or Facebook. If Google is your only one, the button shows "Connect another sign-in method first".
See [Profile](https://docs.theavoxai.com/settings/profile).

## Check it's working

- **Settings > Profile > Connected accounts** shows **Google: Connected**.
- Sign out, then sign back in with the **Google** button.

## Common errors

| You see | Fix |
| --- | --- |
| "Sign-in didn't complete. Please try again." | The Google sign-in was cancelled or interrupted. Try again. |
| "That sign-in link has expired or was already used. Please sign in again." | Start the sign-in again from the sign-in page. |
| [AVX-3095](https://docs.theavoxai.com/error-codes/avx-3095) - couldn't connect that account | Try again from **Connected accounts**. |
| [AVX-3096](https://docs.theavoxai.com/error-codes/avx-3096) - couldn't disconnect that account | Try again. Make sure another sign-in method is set up first. |

## Security

- **Two-factor authentication still applies.** If you've set up an authenticator, Avox asks for
its code after Google sign-in too. See [Two-factor](https://docs.theavoxai.com/security/two-factor).
- **New-device alerts.** Signing in from a device you haven't used recently sends a "New sign-in"
  email. See [Sessions](https://docs.theavoxai.com/security/sessions).
- **No password to change.** An account that only uses Google has no Avox password. To delete such
an account, sign in again first - deleting needs a sign-in from the last 15 minutes. See
  [Data deletion](https://docs.theavoxai.com/data-deletion).

## Limits

- One Google account per **Google** row in **Connected accounts**. To switch to a different
Google account, **Disconnect** the current one (with another sign-in method set up), then
  **Connect** the new one.
- Google sign-in signs **you** in. It doesn't change your role in any Switchboard - Admins and
Managers keep the same access whichever way they sign in. See
  [Members and roles](https://docs.theavoxai.com/switchboard/members).

## Build your own server for Google sign-in

Your own server isn't involved. Google sign-in happens between your browser, Google and Avox - there's nothing to host or configure on your side.

## FAQ

**Can I use Google and a password together?**

Yes. Connect Google from **Connected accounts** on an account with a password, and either works.

**I lost access to my Google account. How do I sign in?**

Use another sign-in method you set up, such as a password or a passkey. If Google was your only
method, email hello@theavoxai.com from your account's email address.

**Does Google sign-in work at checkout?**

Yes. If you pick a plan while signed out, you sign in with Google and come back to checkout with your
chosen plan.

**Can I sign in with a passkey instead?**

Yes. On the sign-in page, choose **Sign in with a passkey**. See [Passkeys](https://docs.theavoxai.com/security/passkeys).

**Why did I get a 'New sign-in' email after using Google?**

Avox emails you whenever your account is used from a device it hasn't seen recently, whichever
sign-in method was used. If it wasn't you, change your sign-in details and review
[Sessions](https://docs.theavoxai.com/security/sessions).
