These are the capabilities Meta builds into the WhatsApp Business Platform, and the place each one
lives in Avox. Each section is the short version, with a link to the full page. For what Avox adds
on top - the shared inbox, automation, Avox AI and more - see [All features](https://docs.theavoxai.com/features).

## Cloud API messaging

Meta's hosted API for sending and receiving WhatsApp messages. Avox uses it for every message, and
the [Avox API](https://docs.theavoxai.com/avox-api) lets your own server send through your number with a simple key - a live
key for real sends, or a test key while you build.

| Message type | What it is |
| --- | --- |
| `text` | A plain text message, with optional link previews. |
| `image`, `video`, `audio`, `document`, `sticker` | Media from a public `https://` link or a Meta media id. |
| `location` | A map pin with a name and address. |
| `contacts` | One or more contact cards. |
| `interactive` | Quick reply buttons, lists, link buttons, Flows and call permission requests. |
| `reaction` | An emoji reaction to a message. |
| `template` | An approved message template - the one type that works outside the 24-hour window. |

## Coexistence

Run one number in the WhatsApp Business app and on the Cloud API at the same time. Your team keeps
the phone app, and Avox adds everything else on the same number - including your past chats (if
you choose to share them), your app contacts, and the replies your team sends from the phone.

- In Avox: **Existing number (Coexistence)** in the connection wizard.
- Learn more: [Coexistence](https://docs.theavoxai.com/coexistence-explained), [Coexistence sync](https://docs.theavoxai.com/connections/coexistence).

## Embedded Signup

Meta's secure sign-up window that connects your number to Avox in a few minutes - no developer
account or manual token copying.

- In Avox: **Continue to Meta** on **Connect with Meta**, the last step of the connection wizard.
- Learn more: [Embedded Signup](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/embedded-signup), [Setup](https://docs.theavoxai.com/connections/setup).

## Message templates

Messages Meta reviews and approves in advance - the way to start a conversation, or to reach
someone more than 24 hours after they last wrote. Avox builds them with a step-by-step wizard,
keeps their status in sync with Meta, and lets you start from Avox's ready-made templates or Meta's
own template library.

- In Avox: [Templates](https://docs.theavoxai.com/templates), [Create](https://docs.theavoxai.com/templates/create), [Library](https://docs.theavoxai.com/templates/library),
  [Insights](https://docs.theavoxai.com/templates/insights).
- Learn more: [Template categories](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/template-categories),
  [Template approval](https://docs.theavoxai.com/templates/approval).

## WhatsApp Flows

Multi-screen forms that open right inside a WhatsApp chat - booking an appointment, a survey, a
lead form. Avox builds them with a visual step wizard plus a JSON editor for the screens.

- In Avox: [Flows](https://docs.theavoxai.com/flows).
- Learn more: [Flows on WhatsApp](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/flows).

## Business Calling

WhatsApp voice calls with your business. Avox turns calling on for a number, keeps a call history,
and asks a customer's permission to call them - which WhatsApp requires before a business calls.

- In Avox: [Calls](https://docs.theavoxai.com/calls) and the **Calling** switch on each connection.
- Learn more: [Calling](https://docs.theavoxai.com/connections/calling), [Calling on WhatsApp](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/calling).

## Webhooks

Meta's real-time events: incoming messages, delivery and read statuses, template decisions,
quality changes, calls, Flow status changes and account alerts. Avox processes them for your
dashboard and lists every one, with its payload, on Logs. New customer messages can also be
forwarded to your own server.

- In Avox: [Logs](https://docs.theavoxai.com/logs), plus [Inbox](https://docs.theavoxai.com/inbox), [Templates](https://docs.theavoxai.com/templates), [Flows](https://docs.theavoxai.com/flows),
[Calls](https://docs.theavoxai.com/calls) and [Health](https://docs.theavoxai.com/health), which they keep up to date, and
  [Message forwarding](https://docs.theavoxai.com/connections/webhook-override).
- Learn more: [Meta webhooks](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/webhooks),
  [Delivery statuses and replies](https://docs.theavoxai.com/avox-api/webhooks).

## Business health and quality

Meta rates each number's quality, sets how many people you can start conversations with each day,
and reports anything blocking a number from sending.

- In Avox: [Health](https://docs.theavoxai.com/health) - heartbeat, **Check health now**, **Quality history** and delivery
  rate.
- Learn more: [Quality and limits](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/quality-and-limits).

## Usernames

A `wa.me/<username>` link for your number, so customers can find you without typing the phone
number.

- In Avox: **Set a WhatsApp username** under **WhatsApp username** on the connection's page.
- Learn more: [Connections](https://docs.theavoxai.com/connections#your-whatsapp-username),
  [Display names](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/display-names).

## Identity-key check

Blocks a send when the WhatsApp account behind a customer's number has changed - for example a
recycled phone number - so sensitive messages reach the right person.

- In Avox: the **Identity-Key Check** switch on each connection.
- Learn more: [Connections](https://docs.theavoxai.com/connections#identity-key-check), [Meta error codes](https://docs.theavoxai.com/meta-error-codes).

## Common questions

**Do I need my own Meta developer app to use these?**

No. You connect your number through Meta's Embedded Signup window inside Avox, and Avox handles the
Cloud API, webhooks and tokens for you. See [Embedded Signup](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp/embedded-signup).

**Can I keep using the WhatsApp Business app on my phone?**

Yes. Choose **Existing number (Coexistence)** when you connect. See
[Coexistence](https://docs.theavoxai.com/coexistence-explained).

**Who charges for messages - Meta or Avox?**

Meta charges your WhatsApp Business Account for the messages it charges for; Avox charges for your
plan. See [Pricing](https://docs.theavoxai.com/whatsapp-platform).
