# Active Devices and Sessions

> See every device signed in to your Avox account, get alerts about new sign-ins, and sign out of all other sessions at once.

**Settings > Security > Active devices** shows every browser that has opened your Avox dashboard, so
you can spot one you don't recognise and sign it out. It's about your own account; every member has
their own list.

## The device list

Each row shows:

| Detail | Example | Notes |
| --- | --- | --- |
| System and browser | Windows · Chrome | A phone icon for iOS and Android, a laptop icon for everything else. "Unknown device" if it can't be told. |
| **This device** | | Marks the browser you're using right now. |
| IP address | 203.0.113.24 | "Unknown IP" if there isn't one. |
| Location | Mumbai, Maharashtra, India | Approximate - see below. "Unknown location" if it can't be found. |
| Last active | Oct 8, 2:05 PM | The last time that browser opened the dashboard. |

A browser is added (or its row updated) each time it opens the dashboard. With nothing recorded yet, the
card says "No device activity recorded yet." If the list can't load you see
[AVX-3091](https://docs.theavoxai.com/error-codes/avx-3091).

> **Note**
>
> Location is looked up from the IP address by an outside location service when the browser visits.
> It's usually right to a city or region, never an exact address, and can be off for anyone on a VPN,
> a mobile network, or a company network.

Each browser is recognised by a random id it keeps in its own storage. If you clear your browser's site
data, that browser shows up as a new device next time.

## Signing out

**Sign out** - in your account menu, the command palette, or **Sign out everywhere** at the bottom of
the Settings menu - signs you out on **all your devices**, not only the one you're using. Every other
browser has to sign in again too.

- **Other open tabs follow.** Signing out in one tab sends your other open Avox tabs in that browser
straight to the sign-in page. A tab on another device goes there the next time it's used.
- **This browser is cleared.** Your recent searches and your last-used Switchboard are removed from
it, so the next person to use it starts fresh.

## Signing out one device or everywhere

Each row in the list has its own button:

- **Sign out** on another device - confirm with **Sign out device**. That device is signed out straight
away and needs your password (and two-factor code, if it's on) to get back in. You see "Device signed
  out".
- **Sign out everywhere** on the row marked **This device** - signs you out here and on every other
  device, exactly like **Sign out**.

If signing out a device fails you see "Couldn't sign out that device" - try again.

## Signing out of all other sessions

To end every other session but stay signed in where you are:

**1. Click Sign out of all other sessions**

Under the list. It's disabled when this is the only device.

**2. Done**

You see "Signed out of every other session". Every other browser is signed out and removed from the
list; the one you're on stays signed in.

If it fails you see [AVX-3092](https://docs.theavoxai.com/error-codes/avx-3092) - try again.

> **Tip**
>
> Changing your password also signs out every other device automatically. If you don't recognise a
> device, change your password, sign out the others, and turn on
> [two-factor authentication](https://docs.theavoxai.com/security/two-factor).

## New sign-in emails

You get a **New sign-in** email ("New sign-in to your Avox account from Windows · Chrome", for example)
when your account opens the dashboard on a device it hasn't used recently. It shows the device (system
and browser), approximate location, IP address, and time, with a **See your active devices** button.
If it wasn't you, reset your password, reply to the email, and sign that device out here.

To avoid noise, it's sent only when:

- the browser is new to your account, **and**
- your account already has other devices (your very first sign-in isn't news), **and**
- no device with the same system, browser, and country was used in the last 30 days.

At most one is sent every 10 minutes. Clearing site data on your usual laptop doesn't trigger one.

## How long sessions last

Sign-ins expire and refresh on their own while you use Avox, so an old tab doesn't stay signed in
forever. To end every other session at once, use **Sign out of all other sessions**.

## Something looks wrong?

If you see a device you don't recognise, sign out the others, change your password, and email
hello@theavoxai.com or open a ticket in [Support](https://docs.theavoxai.com/support).
