# Dashboard Tours

> The guided dashboard tour and each page's own short tour, led by your Avox Avatar: what they show, when page tours start by themselves, how Avox remembers what you've seen, and how to replay them.

Source: https://docs.theavoxai.com/settings/tours

Avox has two kinds of tour, both led by your own Avox Avatar:

- **The dashboard tour**: a short walk through the header and the main pages, about a minute long.
You start it whenever you like.
- **Page tours**: a few steps about one page. Most pages have one. Each page shows you around once by
itself, the first time you open it, and you can replay it any time with **Show me around**.

A tour points at one part of the screen at a time, with a short note beside it. Everything you've
seen is saved to your account, so a tour you've finished on one device doesn't play again on another.

## Moving through a tour

Each step shows **Step 2 of 8** (for example), a title and a short note, with a progress bar under it.

| To | Click | Or press |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Go to the next step | **Next** | `→` |
| Go back a step | **Back** | `←` |
| Close the tour | **Skip tour** (dashboard tour), **Skip** (page tour), or the X (**Close the tour**) | `Esc` |
| End on the last step | **Finish** (dashboard tour) or **Done** (page tour) | |

While a tour is open, the dashboard's own keyboard shortcuts wait until it closes, and `Tab`
stays inside the tour's note. On a phone, the note docks at the top or bottom of the screen.

If your Avox Avatar can't find the part it wants to show on your screen just then, the note says so
and the step still explains it. With **Reduce motion** on (Settings > Personalisation > Appearance),
nothing slides or bounces.

## The dashboard tour

The dashboard tour covers what works before a WhatsApp number is connected. It moves between pages by
itself, in this order:

| # | Step | Where | What it shows |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| 1 | **Hi, it's me** | The header | Your Avox Avatar introduces the bar at the top of every page. |
| 2 | **Your Switchboard** | The header | What a Switchboard is, and how to switch between them (or make a second one if you have only one). |
| 3 | **Search everything** | The header | One box for pages, settings, contacts, chats and actions, with your search keys if [keyboard shortcuts](https://docs.theavoxai.com/settings/personalisation#keyboard-shortcuts) are on. |
| 4 | **Alerts** | The header | The bell: billing nudges, connection problems, support replies, and chat signals if you see them. |
| 5 | **Your account menu** | The header | Settings, Billing, your Switchboards, the docs and support, and where to find this tour again. |
| 6 | **Connections** | Connections | Where your WhatsApp numbers live, and what opens up once one is connected. |
| 7 | **Apps** | Apps | Connecting the tools you already use: payments, meetings, stores, CRM and sheets. |
| 8 | **Billing** | Billing | Your plan, credits and invoices. |
| 9 | **Compliance** | Compliance | Data requests, consent records and how long logs are kept. |
| 10 | **Settings** | Settings | Your profile, security, team and API keys, and Personalisation. |
| 11 | **Overview, and that's the tour** | Overview | Your account at a glance, and the **Show me around** button on every page. |

The tour fits what you can do:

- Pages you can't open are left out: pages your role doesn't allow (see
[Members and roles](https://docs.theavoxai.com/switchboard/members)) and pages switched off for your account.
- **Your Switchboard** is left out until you're in a Switchboard.
- If no number is connected and you can't open Connections, a step called **A few rooms are still
locked** comes before the pages instead: it explains that Inbox, Contacts, Templates, Flows and more
open once your Admin connects a WhatsApp number.

Pages that need a connected number (Inbox, Templates, Flows and the rest) aren't in the dashboard tour.
Each has its own page tour instead.

### Starting the dashboard tour

The dashboard tour never starts by itself. Start it from any of these:

| Where | What to click | Starts |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Sidebar banner | **Take the tour** (under "Fancy a quick tour?") | From the beginning |
| Sidebar banner, after stopping part way | **Carry on the tour** (under "We stopped part way") | From the step you stopped at |
| Account menu (your avatar, top right) | **Take the tour**, under **Help** | From the beginning |
| Search | **Take the dashboard tour** | From the beginning |
| Settings > Personalisation > Tour and reset | **Restart the tour** | From the beginning, with every page tour brought back too |

The tour's offer is the first card in the sidebar banner until you finish the tour. It shows only
while **Show the sidebar banner** (Personalisation > Navigation) and **Tips and hints**
(Personalisation > Blobatar) are both on. The X on that card hides the offer for good; **Restart the
tour** or **Reset all** brings it back. With the offer hidden, or either setting off, the tour is still
in the account menu, search and Personalisation.

The tour doesn't open over the onboarding chat, the Switchboard chooser, creating a Switchboard, or
the two-factor sign-in step.

### Stopping part way

Closing the tour saves the step you were on. The sidebar banner then offers **Carry on the tour** and
picks up there. **Take the tour** in the account menu or search always starts from the beginning.

## Page tours

A page tour explains one page in a few steps, and stays on that page. It only points at what's on your
screen: steps for parts you can't see (no data yet, something your role doesn't allow, or a part
that doesn't show on a phone) are left out. If nothing on the page can be shown yet, a single note
says there isn't much to point at and to ask again once there's something there. Leaving the page
ends its tour.

### Pages with a tour

Pages marked "Needs a number" have their tour only once a WhatsApp number is connected, because the
page itself opens only then.

A page's tour is also left out if you can't open that page at all.

### When a page tour starts by itself

The first time you open a page with a tour, it starts by itself, once. It waits until:

- the dashboard tour has had its turn: you finished or closed it, hid its offer, switched the sidebar
banner off, or the offer has been showing since an earlier visit (an hour or more ago, or a day),
- **Tips and hints** is on (Settings > Personalisation > Blobatar),
- the page has finished loading and settled, with nothing else open on top, and
- there are at least two things on the page for it to point at.

It waits a moment after the page opens. If you start clicking or typing first, it leaves you alone,
and the **Show me around** button still offers it. If the page takes too long to load, it waits for
your next visit.

### Starting a page tour yourself

| Where | What to click |
| --- | --- |
| Next to the page's title | The compass button, **Show me around**. It shows only on pages that have a tour. |
| Search | **Tour this page**. On a page without its own tour, this starts the dashboard tour instead. |
| The keyboard shortcuts list (press `?`) | **Show me around this page**, at the top of the list. |

Until you've seen a page's tour, a small dot pulses on its **Show me around** button and its label
reads "New here? I'll show you around" (with **Reduce motion** on, the dot stays still). The dot shows
only while **Tips and hints** is on.

## How Avox remembers what you've seen

Your tour progress is saved to your account, so it's the same on every device you sign in on:

- **The dashboard tour**: the step you reached (for **Carry on the tour**), whether you finished it, and
  whether you closed it early.
- **Page tours**: which page tours you've seen, and when. A page tour counts as seen as soon as it
opens, whether it started by itself or you started it, even if you close it straight away.

Each page tour starts by itself only once. After that it plays only when you ask.

## Seeing the tours again

Open **Settings > Personalisation > Tour and reset**:

| Button | What happens |
| --- | --- |
| **Restart the tour** | Takes you to the Overview and starts the dashboard tour from the beginning. Every page tour comes back too, so each page shows you around again the first time you open it. |
| **Reset page tours** | Brings back only the page tours: "Page tours are back. Each page shows you around again the first time you open it." Greyed out until you've seen at least one. |
| **Reset all** | Puts every Personalisation choice back to its default, the tours included. See [Resetting everything](https://docs.theavoxai.com/settings/personalisation#resetting-everything). |

You never need to reset anything to replay one page's tour: click **Show me around** on that page.

## Fewer tours

- Turn off **Tips and hints** (Settings > Personalisation > Blobatar). Page tours stop starting by
themselves, the dot on **Show me around** goes, and the tour's offer leaves the sidebar banner. You
can still start any tour yourself.
- Turn off **Show the sidebar banner** (Settings > Personalisation > Navigation) to remove the whole
card under the sidebar, the tour's offer included.
- Finish the dashboard tour once and its offer leaves the sidebar banner for good.

See [Personalisation](https://docs.theavoxai.com/settings/personalisation) for every setting.
