# Create a Table

> Tell Avox AI what you want to keep track of and pick a suggested table, or start from scratch and choose your own columns.

Source: https://docs.theavoxai.com/tables/create

Creating a table takes three short steps: say what you want to keep track of, check the
columns, then name it. Avox AI (Beta) suggests a premade table or columns from your own words,
and you can always start from scratch instead. Your progress is saved as a draft as you go.

You need the **Create and edit tables** permission, an active plan, and a free table place on
your plan (see [Plans](https://docs.theavoxai.com/plans)).

## Open the wizard

Go to **Tables** and click **Create table**, or pick one of the premade tables on the Tables
page to open the wizard with it already chosen. The wizard has three steps, shown at the top as
**Find**, **Columns** and **Name**.

**1. Tell us what you want to keep track of**

Describe it in your own words, like *"services I offer with prices and how long they take"* or
*"pincodes we deliver to and the delivery fee"*. As you type, the Avox Avatar thinks along and
Avox AI suggests the premade tables that fit best, with the words that matched. Pick one to use
its columns and sample rows.

Nothing fits? Avox AI also suggests a custom table: a name taken from your words and columns
for the details you mentioned (a price becomes a money column, a date a date column, a phone
number a phone column, a status a single choice column, and so on).

Prefer to build it yourself? Click **Start from scratch**.

**2. Check the columns**

Every column is listed with its name and type. Rename columns, change their types, add or
remove columns, put them in another order, and mark them **Required** or **Unique**. Choice
columns get their options here. A table can have up to 50 columns. See
[Column types](https://docs.theavoxai.com/tables/column-types) for what each type holds.

**3. Name it**

Give the table a name (up to 80 characters), and optionally a description, an icon and a
colour. For a premade table you can keep its sample rows, which helps you see how it works;
delete them whenever you like. Money columns use the currency you pick here.

Click **Create table** and the table opens, ready for rows.

## Drafts

The wizard saves your progress as you go, so you can close it and come back later. Unfinished
tables appear under **Drafts** on the Tables page; open one to continue where you left off, or
delete it. You can keep up to 10 drafts per Switchboard, and drafts don't count towards your
plan's tables.

If a draft can't be saved online for a moment, your progress is still kept in this browser.

## After you create it

- Add rows by typing, pasting from a spreadsheet, or importing a CSV or Excel file. See
  [Editing a table](https://docs.theavoxai.com/tables/editing) and [Import and export](https://docs.theavoxai.com/tables/import-export).
- Change columns any time from their header menu.
- Each table gets an API name made from its name (for example `services_and_prices`), which you
can change in the table's **Settings**.
